Look for next week's comic in color.
We finally finished our music playlist. You may not have noticed, but it only went up to artists/groups through the letter ‘R’ for the longest time. Of course it will never be completely finished, as we will continually add new songs we like and remove songs we’re tired of. We also plan on creating theme-based lists for holidays and such.
We have had a lot of positive, but some negative feedback on our music (not for the songs chosen but for the fact that it’s on the blog at all). We would just like to say a few words on that… When people come to visit our blog, it is the same as coming to visit our home. Our blog is a look into our lives and our personality. The stories we share, the pictures we post, the feelings we express, and the music we play are ways for everyone else to see us for who we are. We are family-oriented people who love music and art, and have a fascination with pirates.
The songs on the playlist are songs we mutually agreed on and each one was selected for a reason. We intentionally kept our love songs to each other off the list, and decided to only have songs about us together, or says something from us to all of you. Some are there as a tribute to one specific person, or a group of people we love. (For example, we know a few people who like Pink Floyd, so we added “Another Brick In The Wall,” as performed by a band we like, mixing their tastes with ours.)
We know that if we are in the car with my parents, we will listen to oldies music, and jazz if it’s just my dad. In Bret’s car, it would be good, clean music, and maybe an audiobook or LDS talk. With Jeremy, it’s the current popular music in the rock and pop genres. Amy plays a lot of Disney music for her kids. Sara’s family listens to mainly country music. Jenn’s parents prefer to talk rather than have music playing in the car, but showtunes and easy listening music can frequently be heard in their home. Ty will likely be listening to some upbeat acoustic music, and some classical stuff if Cami has a say in it.
In others’ homes, we see pictures hanging of their respective families, a humorous or profound quote that has meaning to them, or a picture of the Savior, showing their faith and belief to all who enter. My dad will usually be found watching sports while my mom reads. Jenn’s family might be watching Star Trek, Stargate, or an old movie. At Jeremy’s house, a video game is likely being played. Sara’s boys will usually be playing a car game or watching a racecar show, or Mike is watching how to make light bulbs or cook an interesting dish. Ty & Cami love to watch The Office.
Music is a large part of our lives. The purpose of the music on our blog is to set the mood, show our personality, and pay respect to others who have influenced our musical tastes over the years. You are more than welcome to turn down, turn off, or change the song. Although we would like you to give it a chance, no one is forcing you to listen. And anything that anyone finds questionable will be removed without offense. The option to turn it off is still yours, but the music player will stay.

We would also like to wish "happy birthday" to Karen (Mama Llama) and Amy today, and Pamela (Mom/Grandma Burningham) tomorrow!
Upon hearing that Jordan would be participating in a Mascot Bowl this year, I learned just how little Jenn knows about football. Everyone in my family knows I'm not a football fan. It's fun to play in video games once in a while, and I'll watch when my nephews are playing, but other than that, it's not my thing. Still, even I know that a "bowl" is a term for a major football game. However, when Jenn heard Jordan would be playing in this year's Mascot Bowl, she had visions of mascots floating in a bowl of cereal.
Actually, the first "bowl game" was held at the Rose Bowl Stadium, so named for the bowl-shaped design of the stadium. Since then, the term "bowl" has become synonymous with a major football game, such as the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Sun Bowl, and of course, the Super Bowl. (I love Wikipedia.)
The Mascot Bowl is a big charity event that includes all the mascots from Utah (from every sport), NFL and NBA mascots from around the country, Utah Blitzz Arena Football players, and other random mascots, celebrities, and groups. Trevor played in the Mascot Bowl three years ago, and we heard how much fun it was, and knew we had to watch Jordan play in it this year. So here are just a few of the many pictures I have of the event. Pictured below in order are Brady, Kalli, Jeremy, Mom, us, Trevor, his "friend" Aubrey, and Kaytlin.

I have found that I enjoy watching football (big shock, I know). I have found that I most especially like to watch the Burningham Brothers' football games. Why? Because for one, I know at least one player in each game that I can root for, and secondly, not very many people show up to watch the teams that my nephews play on, so I don't have the discomfort of being surrounded by huge masses of people that I am SURE are all out to get me.
Now, I am a consitantly naive individual. When the Mascot Bowl was explained to me, I thought it would be a really fun and unique experience. I was all for it. I had visions of mascots running around the field getting their stuffed tails kicked, with the usual assortment of spectators scattered around the bleachers. I couldn't have been more wrong. When we reached the exit for Lehi, we realized that the game was going to be uncomfortably packed. The off-ramp was moving at a tedious 1 mile an hour.
People filled the bleachers and lined the sidelines and even the end zone. Just seeing the people from a distance made me dizzy, being in the thick of them... well, you just use your imagination. But I had a lot of fun anyway.
Last Thursday, Adam and I were not feeling exceptionally well and were having a "down day" when we were informed (last minute) of Trevor's football game all the way out at Lone Peak High School. Dying of boredom, we decided to go and watch. We scrambled about getting ready and left. I got lost. A couple times. Adam even had detailed directions. We got there 35 minutes late.
Tired, cranky, and sick we were ready to sit back, sip Dr. Pepper and enjoy the game... but that was not to be. Within minutes of sitting down, our Dr. Pepper was attacked by Killer Bees. Killer Bees that were also Dr. Pepper addicts. They ignored their potential victims and went straight for our drink. One even crawled right inside the can. Needless to say, we no longer wanted to sip from our nice, cold soda. I was not a happy individual. I hate bees. Really, really hate them. So, having them swarming around our feet freaked me out, and at one point, when one of them got especially close, I screamed. Adam, on the other hand was chuckling at my irrational terror, which frustrated me. I felt he should have swooped in and heroically kill the offending creatures with his gleaming white sword (that would have magically appeared). We moved. The Killer Bees stayed behind and happily sipped our Dr. Pepper and watched the game.
On another note, our downstairs neighbors (the ones with the cats that thought we narked on them) have moved out. Now we have a nice, middle aged lady who lives alone. No more night time screaming. No more cats, no more accusatory glares. We are happy.
Before we started this blog, we had the idea to start a comic series of the humorous events of our married life. Then we started the blog and realized this would be the perfect way to share it with everyone. We each came up with the ideas, Jenn did all the hand drawing, and I did all the digital editing. The original idea was to print them, so to save on color ink, the first three were done in black and white. We’re going to try doing them in color from now on, and post a new one each week.
We are starting with our adventure in trying to buy Wii Fit, an exercise game for the Nintendo Wii. And you should know these stories are true, with very little exaggeration.
