A Quarter of a Century

It’s not difficult to devote an entire day to my wife, and shower her with love and gifts. I already do that every chance I get. But birthdays are the perfect excuse to go all out.

As is typical with us, “all out” isn’t much. In the end, Jenn ended up with only three surprises, one of which didn’t arrive on time. The rest was clothes and other things she picked out herself. Every birthday and Christmas I tell her about all of the things I WANTED to get her, but couldn’t.

Doing the math, if I had bought everything I actually considered buying for her birthday, it would have been just shy of $700. The complete wishful-thinking list, however, is easily in the million-dollar range. Thankfully, Jenn is understanding, and easy to please. A few silly things and some clothes that she needed were enough to make her smile. And that’s enough for me too.

I love you, Jennifer, my peanut. I know you hate it when I equate your age to a fraction of a century, but before you start thinking that you’re getting old, think about all the years you’ve had up to this point, and know that you have more than twice that much time left to live. Only now, we get to live those years together.

I agree with John and Margaret; you are very sweet. Sounds to me like the best presents that you each have for any holiday or birthday, is each other. So, no matter what life brings, you'll always have the best present, no matter what! :D
