Recap of the Week

This week has had its ups and downs. For a moment, it looked like I was going to have a temporary job. It’s still up in the air, but I’m doubtful it will work out. I would have been sanding doors at Peterson Woodworks where I know some of the people who work there, namely Mike and the boss, who know a little bit about my problems when it comes to my ability to work. So it would be a great situation for me to be able to work, gain some experience, have a little extra money to survive, and doing a simple task that I think I could do. But they have since reconsidered hiring a temp and are thinking of either hiring someone more permanent with more experience, or buying the doors already made from another source, which is what they used to do.

However, I still have been working. My parents are remodeling their house. With the exception of the kitchen, every floor is being replaced, and the bathrooms are being completely re-done with new tubs, tile in the shower, tile on the floor, light fixtures, cabinets, countertops, etc. Jason, who does carpet for a living, is re-carpeting the entire house by himself. And Mike is handling the cabinets with Peterson’s, and doing the tiles, because his dad runs a flooring business. The rest of us guys are helping where we can, moving furniture and getting rid of the old stuff. Other than hiring a plumber, the family is doing all of this alone.

Here are some pictures. We’ll post more when it’s finished, but here are some with us helping take out the old downstairs carpet, and hauling out the old bathroom tiles (and wall), bucket by bucket.

In other news, Jenn is extremely sick AGAIN! In fact, she’s worse now than she was last time. If everyone could keep her in your prayers, it would be appreciated. We need her to get well, at least before Thanksgiving. This also means the comic for this week hasn’t been finished, but hopefully you can expect two again next week.

Tag, We’re It... Again!

Taylor was tagged, and had to tag three more people, so she directly tagged us. We’re sorry to those of you who might be tired of these things, but I like them because they make you think, let you get to know people, and give a reason to blog more often. So here it goes...

I am... a Burningham.
I know... who I am. (Inside joke.)
I want... a simple, predictable, and controlled life.
I dislike... everything that prevents me from having it.
I miss... the simplicity of childhood.
I feel... a little cold.
I hear... traffic, and my computer humming.
I smell... what the heck is that?
I crave... Dr. Pepper.
I cry... when something hits me hard on the inside.
I search... for ways to make our lives better.
I wonder... what that smell is.
I regret... not meeting Jenn earlier.
I love... my wife, Jennifer!
I care... about her more than myself.
I worry... how we’re going to make it by.
I remember... my first bubble bath when I was only a few years old.
I believe... in Santa Claus.
I dance... only to make Jenn smile.
I don’t... often do what I should.
I argue... with people who are stubborn and unbending.
I write... whenever and whatever I can.
I win... when I play video games… most of the time.
I lose... when I play with Jenn and she cheats.
I wish... I were a better person.
I listen... to music almost all the time.
I can usually be found... in front of a TV or computer screen.
I am scared... of the unknown.
I need... security.
I forget... the things I want to remember.
I am happy... because of Jenn.

Jenn’s turn…

I am... human, not a dancer.
I know... a lot of pointless things.
I want... a simple, predictable, and controlled life. (I like his answer, so I’m taking it.)
I dislike... sadness, negativity, and stress… and cauliflower.
I miss... my mom’s warm bread, fresh out of the oven.
I feel... tired. I got too much sleep and now I’m a sleeping machine.
I hear... my eyelids making that click sound when I blink.
I smell... my makeup. It’s kind of a fruit-punch smell.
I crave... Turkey! Yay for Thanksgiving!
I cry... when I am sad.
I search... for new ways to make Adam smile in his wonderfully cute way.
I wonder... why I am cold all the time.
I regret... a lot of things, nothing current though.
I love... ADAM!!!!!
I care... about his happiness.
I worry... over little things.
I remember... that yellow grocery store we used to shop at when my family lived here before.
I believe... in fairy tales.
I dance... the happy dance I did when Adam called me for the first time.
I don’t... exercise.
I argue... all the time. Sorry, Adam.
I write... fiction stories, usually in the fantasy genre.
I win... when I make up the rules.
I lose... when I can’t make up the rules.
I wish... upon a star.
I listen... wait, I listen? Me? Never.
I can usually be found... reading a book or playing my DS on the couch nearest Adam.
I am scared... of falling from heights.
I need... hugs. Lots of them. I like hugs.
I forget... pretty much everything. I have no memory at all.
I am happy... because of Adam.

The three people/couples that we’re going to tag (but understand if they don’t want to do it) are: Mama Llama, Ty & Cami, and Meg & John. (I’m going to let McKenna tag you, Sara.) Copy and paste what we wrote, but replace our answers with your own.

Wow!

Jenn said it would happen, and I mocked her. But she was right.

Those of you familiar with this station will also notice that they still haven't changed their sign for over a year. I guess charging "only $400" for a car wash is how they can afford to sell gas for less than $2 a gallon.

Pictures From Trafalga

I forgot to prepare the pictures of our anniversary at Trafalga before Jenn's last post, so here they are.

They darkened the room, added black lights, and painted everything to be fish-themed. So taking pictures was a pain, but the few that turned out look pretty cool.

My Ring Is A Year Old

Yesterday, the 10th of November, was the anniversary of Adam's proposal of marriage. Seeing as how I am an extreme sentimentalist, I insisted that we celebrate this event. Adam feels similarly as I do and therefore I didn't have to persuade him too much.

One year ago, Orem was uncharacteristically warm for November. I still remember a few trees had green on them. The skies were blue and there was a pleasant breeze. In other words, it was a perfect day. I had no idea how perfect at the time.

I cannot remember much of the morning on that day, but around 2:00, Adam announced he was feeling restless and wanted to go out and do something. He mentioned going miniature golfing and I thought that sounded fun, so we went to Trafalga. We listened to our love song mix on the way, which wasn't unusual.

When we arrived, I started to turn off the car, but Adam stopped me, saying he wanted to finish listening to the song that was playing. That song was "Everything" by Lifehouse. I thought nothing of his request and sat back to enjoy the music. Adam reached into his pocket, something that he does often to shift the items within to settle more comfortably, so I wasn't prepared when he pulled out a little white box.

The rest of the story here is personal, the memories too dear to find words to describe them, but I obviously said yes.

We did actually golf after that, though I did terribly due to the distractingly shiny diamond on my finger.

Afterwords, we went to my parents' house and did our best to act casual. Cubby came right up to us and started to tell us about something while staring at the ring on my hand, her mind not making the connection. Mom asked me why I was smiling so big and my dad, the observant man that he is, said, "look at her hand." The room exploded with excitement and my memory gets a little blurred for an hour or so. It was after we went to show Adam's parents that we were official that he suprised me with a romantic dinner at Olive Garden.

And so, for our anniversary, we went to Trafalga around 2:30 and played "Everything" while we sat in the parking lot. Due to circumstances out of our control, we were unable to go to dinner last night. So we went to dinner at Olive Garden this evening instead.

I know Adam and I are the anniversary King and Queen, but there is something special in celebrating each month of our lives together, and spending a day, remembering and reliving the romance.
